Emergency Preparedness
for Christians

"By failing to prepare , you are preparing to fail."   -- Ben Franklin

What does it mean to be prepared for an Emergency as a Christian?  Shouldn't I just trust God to take care of everything?
There is a fine line between planning and trust.  God, Himself, is a planner.  He had a plan for salvation from the very beginning and has been working out His plan each step of the way.  People in the Bible were planners as well.  But the most important thing about planning is to have the Lord lead you in it.  You should always let the spirit of God move and work in you, and through you as you plan for what life could bring you.
  • Proverbs 16:9 – The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
  • Proverbs 15:22 – Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers, they succeed.
The Lord also gave us instructions that troubled times will come, especially for the Christian. In preparing for those times, we are allowing God to keep peace in our lives since we are ready to weather what is brought in our circumstances. From this position of peace and organization, we are able to minister to those around us who have a need. God can use us to bring His message of Salvation and Love to others even in the midst of troubles.
  • Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 2 Timothy 4:2
  • “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16
  • But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3: 17-18
