Summer Week of Choir 2024
Try-Out Information Form

There is a lot of information to read here!  Please indicate that you have read each section!

WHO:
Any child may try-out for any part or solo; however, you do NOT have to try-out to be part of SWOC!  CHILDREN MUST COMMIT TO ATTENDING ALL DAY EVERY DAY if they are rewarded a Special Part.  We rehearse all day every day!  NOT ALL children
who audition will receive the part he or she desires.  Please explain this to your child!  We do need several non-speaking parts this year, as well as a representative for each of the 50 States!  I will prayerfully consider each child with the help of another adult, and try to match them with the available parts and groups.

WHEN:  Auditions:
Thursday, May 9, 3:00-7:00 PM; Friday, May 10, 3:00-7:00 PM.
Plus Thursday, May 16, 3:00-7:00 PM; Friday, May 17, 3:00-7:00 PM; and Saturday, May 18, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM
Murdale Baptist Church, Foyer Entrance, Music Ministry Rooms (immediately to your right, up the stairs.)
Fill out measurement papers when you arrive.  (Please know your child’s shirt, pant, and shoe sizes.)  Please call (618) 529-5800 and speak with our Church Secretary to make an appointment for your child.  Pre-Week Rehearsals for Soloists & Lead Roles:
June 1 and/or 8, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM-Individuals & Groups will be scheduled.
June 15, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM Individuals & Groups will be scheduled-probably All Speaking Parts!
Other Pre-Week Rehearsals can be arranged for those with conflicts on these dates. Please indicate below.

WHAT:
Every child must sing a solo with an accompaniment track.  (The SWOC musicals are performed with accompaniment tracks-without voices-and we must hear each child’s
ability to sing with a track.  This is a different skill than singing along with a piano, guitar, recording artists, or a cappella!)  You are welcome to bring your own accompaniment track or we can provide you with an accompaniment CD with a song from last year’s musical.  You may pick up the CD from the church office anytime
after receiving this letter.

DETAILS:
It is helpful if you have picked up your copy of this year’s musical and your child has listened and read through it.   We will ask them if they have a preference for a part! Please know your child’s shirt, pant, and shoe sizes-we will need this information for costuming. We will have a measurement tape for other information we need.  During the tryout we will work with your child for 10 to 15 minutes.  Please remain in the foyer during this time.  This gives us an opportunity to work with your child one-on-one, without distractions.  (I will have a lady assisting me during the auditions.)  All children must put preparation into their auditions; they must know their songs well!  Please inform your children that, in the interest of time, they might not be able to sing the entire song.  After the child sings a portion of the song, we will ask the child to read a few lines from the script and imitate some easy choreography. If there is a question about any of this, do not hesitate to call me before the tryouts.

PAPER WORK (You are filling this out right now!):
Please print your child’s name, your name, and sign the commitment at the bottom of this sheet showing that you will be responsible for your child’s memorizing the assigned part and preparing for the extra rehearsals on at least one of three weekends before SWOC: June 1, 8, and/or 15.  Remember also the required performances:
Saturday, June 22, 2023, 6:00 p.m. Performance #1 (Spirit Awards!)
Sunday, June 23, 2023, 6:00 p.m. Performance #2 (Character & Bible Quiz Awards!)
